Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! Water makes up 60% of your body. It carries helpful nutrients and oxygen to your entire body. Water allows the body to absorb and assimilate minerals, vitamins, amino acids, glucose, and other substances. Water flushes out toxins and waste. Water helps keep your body temperature regulated.
So why are 75% of Americans chronically dehydrated?!
Probably the same reason we don’t do a lot of things that are good for us, we don’t have time. BUT WAIT! Stop, stop, stop, drinking water doesn’t take time away from your day. But it does take a little preparation if you are next to a water source at all times of the day or if you are in your car a lot. So let’s talk preparation to help you get your body hydrated! And hopefully these 5 tips make hydration a habit in your life!
Drink upon waking! We spend anywhere from 5 to 9 hours of sleeping a night. That is a high percentage of time that you aren’t taking in fluids. Now it time to replenish your parched organs. Bonus if you squeeze a little lemon or lime water into it!
Find a refillable Water Bottle that you enjoy drinking from. There are some amazing water bottles out there. Find one or two that makes sense for your lifestyle. I’ll link a few of my favorites at the end!
If you can’t stand plain water, add flavor. I am not saying add juice, but add cut up fresh fruit or a flavored hydration multiplier. I use Waterdrop and LiquidIV. This will make drinking water more enjoyable.
If you’re having a hard time remembering, set alarms in your phone to drink up. Start with once every hour. It might sound silly, but after a few weeks you won’t need them anymore!
Anytime you sit down for a meal, drink some water BEFORE you eat.
Try these tips to help you start and continue drinking more water every day. Now that we know how to drink more, let’s talk about how much you need. According to the Mayo Clinic, women need 2.7 liters (91 ounces) and men need 3.7 (182 ounces) per day. That means you will be refilling our water bottles at least a couple times a day.
Now for the fun part, shopping for your new and improved water bottle sidekick. I have become extremely picky when it comes to my water bottles over the years. My criteria is this;
Must be metal (I have ruined way too many plastic bottles in the dishwasher)
Must be dishwasher safe
Must have a water spout/straw
Must be spill proof
Must keep my water cold for hours
Must have a handle
Prefer it to be cute in design :)
So which bottles check all the boxes? Here is my list;
Pop Flex Active Diamond Sky Bottle - $38 - 40 oz - https://www.popflexactive.com
Iron Flask - $30 - 32 Oz- https://amzn.to/3Gfq7Lk
Hydro Flask - $40 - 24oz- https://www.hydroflask.com/24-oz-wide-mouth-w-straw-lid

This is a special mention - there is new technology out there that automatically cleans the bottle tops and even purifies the your water. I haven’t tried it, but wanted to mention as it could be pretty amazing - https://www.livelarq.com

These are my recommendations. Like I said, I am picky, so buy any water that works for your lifestyle and let’s start hydrating!
